The yard · Swier Lane

Fence supplies, and the yard door is open to walk-ins

Rolls of chain link, privacy slats and gate panels at the Swier Lane yard in Yakima, sold to do-it-yourselfers and anyone who walks in.

Chapter 01

Walk in, no job required

Our storefront sign says it in capitals: do it your self and walk in's welcome. The yard at 1711 Swier Lane is not only a place the crew loads trucks from. If you are building your own fence, you can pull in, walk up to the counter and buy what you need.

The business puts it in its own words too: we also have everything you need for all your fencing projects. Summer is the busiest time of year for both jobs and walk-in customers, and the yard is open Monday to Thursday.

You do not have to hire us to buy from us. People fence their own yards, patch a run after a storm, or add a gate to a fence they put up years ago, and the yard exists for them as much as for the crew.

What you can pick up at the yard

Look at the yard photos and you can see the stock: rolls of chain link fabric, privacy slats in several colours and heights, and gate panels stacked and ready. That is the same material the crew sets on its own jobs, from galvanized chain link to the slats that screen a yard.

We do not publish a stock list or prices, because what is on the shelf changes with the season and with the jobs going out. For anything not in the photos, whether that is a particular height, a colour, or a part for a gate, call the counter and ask.

If you are not sure what a project needs, say what you are trying to do. The counter has built fence for a living since 1974 and can tell you what the run will take before you drive over.

Chapter 03

Bring your measurements and the counter does the rest

Bring your measurements and the counter will tell you what the run needs.

Walk the line you want fenced and write down the length of the run, the height you want, how many gates there are and how wide each opening is, and where the corners and ends fall. Corners and ends matter because they take the pull of the whole run, and they are the posts that get counted separately.

A sketch on the back of an envelope is plenty. If you would rather have the crew do the work, the same measurements tell us what to quote, and the crew builds chain link, slats and gates every week.
